POLIMI School of Management graduate Esmeralda Colombo wins prestigious AMBA Student of the Year Award 2026, in association with GMAC, in the AMBA & BGA Excellence Awards

Esmeralda Colombo, a graduate from POLIMI School of Management, has won the coveted AMBA Student of the Year Award 2026, in association with GMAC.

The AMBA & BGA Excellence Awards 2026 were held on January 23, 2026 at the exceptional Royal Garden Hotel, Kensington, London. The Awards brought together leading lights from the global business education community to celebrate excellence and commend achievement among business schools, MBA students and graduates, suppliers and employers.

The ceremony was attended by more than 200 business school leaders, as well as category finalists, judges and members of the media.

The AMBA Student of the Year Award plays a pivotal role in supporting AMBA’s pledge to support the MBA degree’s status as the leading international business qualification.

The AMBA Student of the Year Award recognises students who have shown exceptional career potential and who AMBA believes can act as ambassadors for the high quality of accredited MBAs and the opportunities these programmes provide for students.

This award doesn’t just recognise ‘straight-A’ students but also focuses on leadership potential and career progression.

Esmeralda Colombo stands out as a purpose-driven leader who embodies the AMBA values of innovation, global impact and academic excellence. An energy manager and legal scholar turned tech entrepreneur, she co-founded and exited a startup and is now building GP+ - an AI-powered cleantech venture. She has won over €380K in awards and scholarships, published 30+ works, and has mentored students worldwide. As an ambassador for POLIMI GSoM, she bridges sustainability, law, and innovation, while championing equity and ethics in AI. Her academic rigour, entrepreneurial impact and social commitment make her an outstanding AMBA Student of the Year.

Esmeralda Colombo, said of her achievement, “I am deeply honoured to receive the AMBA Student of the Year Award 2026. I am grateful to AMBA and its inspiring jury for recognising the power of human intelligence and purpose-driven leadership, values I had the opportunity to nurture through the transformative, AI-focused MBA at POLIMI School of Management. My journey has been shaped by exploring the ethics, law, and practice of innovation, pursuing justice-oriented research, and building sustainable businesses with purpose. True leadership, I believe, is realised in the courage to act: to turn ideas into tangible impact, to lead with vision while listening deeply, and to create spaces where curiosity, collaboration, and relentless learning shape craft. Excellence is not a solitary achievement. It emerges in the shared pursuit of happiness and meaningful change, in the boldness to imagine what has never been done, and in the persistence to make it real alongside and for others.”

Federico Frattini, Dean at POLIMI Graduate School of Management said, “We are immensely proud of Esmeralda Colombo and of this outstanding recognition. Her academic rigour, entrepreneurial vision and dedication to responsible innovation embody the values that define our business school. Esmeralda represents the kind of leader we strive to cultivate — purpose‑driven, globally minded and committed to generating positive impact. Her achievement reflects not only her exceptional talent, but also the strength of the learning environment and community she has contributed to at POLIMI Graduate School of Management.”

Andrew Main Wilson, Chief Executive of the Association of MBAs and Business Graduates Association (AMBA & BGA) said: “On behalf of the AMBA and BGA team, I am delighted to congratulate Esmeralda Colombo, this year’s exceptional winner of the AMBA Student of the Year Award 2026.
