Founded in 1938 as the Faculty of Commerce and Accountancy, later renamed Thammasat Business School (TBS) at Thammasat University, the school was established to develop a new generation of Thai leaders to drive the country’s business growth. Today, TBS continues to stay relevant to the evolving business landscape with innovative programmes and a broad spectrum of offerings, earning a strong reputation for excellence in accounting and business education.
In 1972, TBS introduced Thailand’s first part-time MBA programme to provide greater access for working professionals. Over the past 50 years, more than 25,000 students have graduated from this programme. In 2017, the Master of Business Administration in Global Business Management (International Programme), or GEMBA, was added, offering the most internationalized environment available at a Thai tertiary institution. TBS achieved triple accreditation from EQUIS, AACSB, and AMBA in 2018, making it the first business school in Thailand to reach this milestone and distinguishing it as a leading institution in ASEAN.
The mission under Dean Somchai Supattarakul—""to equip future leaders with cutting-edge business insights and technologies for sustainable and effective management in dynamic environments across Thailand, ASEAN, and beyond""—reflects TBS’s progressive legacy and future goals in ASEAN. The vision, ""to cultivate future leaders who sustainably shape ASEAN businesses,"" resonates with local market dynamics and the broader economic and cultural context, enabling TBS to set achievable internationalization goals while addressing regional needs and opportunities.
Sustainable management is also a priority at TBS, which became the first signatory of the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) in Thailand, ensuring its standards align with global norms for sustainability and social responsibility.
Looking ahead, TBS remains committed to expanding its global network, fostering international engagement, and developing the next generation of leaders to navigate the dynamic ASEAN and global business landscape.
