AMBA & BGA has recently made two key appointments which will provide ongoing support for Indian business schools. The appointments will support and cultivate AMBA & BGA’s network in India, and support the aspiration for both brands to be the leading membership and accreditation network for business schools in the region.
Professor Bhaskar Chakrabarti joined AMBA & BGA’s International Management Board as a new Trustee from August 2024, and Shikha Taunk has been appointed as Regional Relationship Manager for India from September 2024.
Professor Chakrabarti is the Academic Dean at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta and leads the international accreditation efforts of the institution. Chakrabarti is educated at Calcutta (MSc) and Cambridge (MPhil) and received an interdisciplinary PhD from the University of British Columbia. He is particularly interested in the social impact of management education and will bring significant knowledge and expertise to the board table.
Chakrabarti said: “The AMBA-BGA team is witnessing an exciting resurgence in commitment to quality assurance through collaboration and innovation among educators. This moment is significant, as it offers Indian institutions an opportunity to embrace the BGA framework, which aligns seamlessly with the Government of India’s National Educational Policy vision. By focusing on positive impact and responsible management, the BGA is not just elevating educational standards but also fostering a culture of shared learning and growth. Together, BGA-affiliated schools are poised to transform India's educational landscape, paving the way for a brighter future for students nationwide.”
With over 17 years of diverse experience in India and abroad, Taunk has developed a robust foundation in both management and academia. An expert in quality and accreditation processes, with experience more recently gained at XLRI Jamshedpur, as Regional Relationship Manager Shikha Taunk will be responsible for working with the membership team to support, develop and enhance the AMBA & BGA network in India. This will include the running of capacity building workshops, support for initiating accreditation journeys, international partnership support and growing the regional network.
Taunk said: “I am delighted to be working both with the AMBA & BGA team and with stakeholders to facilitate the continuous improvement of management education programmes, foster knowledge exchange, and promote best practices across Indian business schools.”
Andrew Main Wilson, CEO of AMBA & BGA, said: “We are delighted to welcome Bhaskar and Shikha to AMBA & BGA and anticipate they will collectively play a pivotal role in both strengthening our position in the South Asian market and in providing our business school network with their extensive knowledge and expertise. I am personally looking forward to working with both of them on further enhancing our strategies in the region.”
