The Association of MBAs (AMBA) and Business Graduates Association (BGA) appoints two new trustees to its International Management Board

AMBA & BGA has recently made a two key appointment to its International Management Board which will provide key expertise and insight for its growing network of business schools globally. The appointments of Morris Mthombeni and Stephen Bach will support AMBA & BGA’s aspiration for both brands to be the leading membership and accreditation network for business schools throughout the world.

Morris Mthombeni is the Dean of the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS). Prior to this appointment, he was the Executive Director of Faculty at GIBS. He is a senior academic who actively researches and teaches at the intersection of the micro- foundations of corporate strategy and corporate governance. He is one of the senior academics in the areas of environment of business, corporate strategy, and innovation at GIBS. He lectures on the Masters and Doctoral Programmes and Executive Education Programmes, including the flagship Global Executive Development Programme from GIBS and the Harvard Business School’s Senior Executive Programme Africa.

Mthombeni is also an advisory board member of UN PRME (Principles for Responsible Management Education) and very active in the accreditation community as a Dean of a triple accredited school.  He is especially proud of being a champion for Africa as evidenced by his leadership role in the PRME Chapter Africa eco-system, especially the Business School for Climate Leadership Africa, which he co-founded, and through being one of the pioneering business schools that have been accredited by the Association of African Business Schools.

Meanwhile, Stephen Bach brings many years of sector related experience to AMBA & BGA’s boardroom. He is currently serving as Executive Dean and Professor of Employment Relations at King’s Business School, King’s College London. He was appointed Executive Dean in 2017 and during 2023 also undertook the role of Vice President (People and Talent) at King’s College London. His research interests include: public service HRM in comparative perspective; international migration of health professionals and new ways of working in the public services.

Additionally Bach has published many books and journal articles on his chosen research topics. His research has been funded by the ESRC, EU, ILO, OECD and WHO and he is a member of the independent NHS Pay Review Body that makes recommendations to government, covering the pay of 1.4 million NHS workers.

Bach said:  “Through its focus on continuous improvement and the exchange of ideas, accreditation is an important part of our sector’s collective mission to help leaders and organisations of all kinds meet the challenges facing them. Having brought a relatively new business school into the AMBA community for the first time, I am delighted to now join the AMBA BGA International Advisory Board and play my part in helping more schools to navigate the opportunities and uncertainties of today’s environment.”
