In this workshop for African and Middle Eastern business schools, we explored the use of lifelong learning modules for AI skills, examined case studies on AI implementation in diverse industries, and discussed the future outlook of AI and industry integration in the region with a focus on the role of business schools.
As digitalisation and AI transform the global job market, businesses need to adapt proactively to remain relevant. Upskilling and reskilling the local workforce in digital and AI skills are not just strategies for navigating this revolution; they are essential investments in the future workforce and the long-term success of the business.
Business schools, as centres of knowledge and learning, are well-positioned to educate the local workforce on utilising AI for enhanced productivity, efficiency, and addressing regional challenges like climate change, healthcare, food shortages, lack of accessible drinking water, and economic growth.
AI can automate routine tasks, freeing up time, such as reducing administrative work for healthcare professionals. Additionally, AI can boost productivity, as demonstrated in Ghana where unmanned drones help cashew nut farmers manage pests. Despite the numerous benefits, many are unaware of AI's full potential or how to integrate it into their workplaces. Business schools can play a crucial role in upskilling the local workforce to use and implement AI effectively.
